THERAPEUTIC BELIEF SYSTEM

At Steps to Change, LLC, we believe that therapy is a collaborative journey of self-discovery and empowerment. It is a brave space to explore all aspects of your life, understand the belief systems you hold, and examine how societal structures impact your well-being. Our approach is rooted in an Anti-Racist, abolitionist, and feminist foundation, actively acknowledging how systems of power, oppression, and racism affect mental health. Here, your whole self is honored, and your experiences are validated.

Therapy can help you cultivate self-compassion, often mirroring the care you so readily give to others. It’s a process to find clarity and empowerment, reframing your past, navigating your present, and envisioning your future with a new lens. Through our therapeutic relationship, you can gain deeper insight into your experiences, hear your internal voice more clearly, and discover the immense strength and capability that already resides within you.

Attending therapy does not mean you are broken or need to be "fixed." You are already a whole, valuable person exactly as you are. Therapy is about adding tools, knowledge, and perspectives—it’s about learning to listen to and trust yourself more fully. We recognize that therapy is a lifelong process of growth, and we meet you where you are. Sessions can be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on your individual needs and life circumstances.

We also acknowledge that this transformative work can be physically and mentally demanding. As a therapist who navigates the fluctuating nature of disability myself, I am deeply committed to creating an accommodating and judgment-free environment. We will work together to find resources and techniques—such as relaxation and guided imagery—to help keep you grounded and comforted through the tougher moments.

If this approach resonates with you, please feel free to reach out to our Administrative Assistant, Desiree, to discuss openings, verify insurance benefits, or explore what services would be most supportive for you at this time.

A Commitment to Your Privacy and Autonomy

For Clients Using Insurance

We recognize that utilizing insurance benefits is a necessary and valid choice for many. If you choose to use your insurance, we are committed to protecting your privacy within the requirements of the system. This does require a qualifying mental health diagnosis and documentation of our work together. In my documentation, I am meticulous and intentional, focusing on broad themes—such as "navigating family dynamics," "exploring interpersonal relationships," or "processing systemic stressors"—rather than using direct quotes or highly specific personal details. This approach allows me to meet billing requirements while still honoring the personal nature of your story and minimizing sensitive information in your clinical record.

For Clients Using Private Pay

To safeguard this deeply personal work and your autonomy, our practice allows for private pay. This intentional choice provides the highest level of confidentiality by not involving insurance companies.  When utilizing Private Pay, a mental health diagnosis is not needed, which for some adds the extra level of privacy. Private pay ensures that your personal information and the intimate details of our sessions remain entirely confidential, allowing us to focus on your goals without external constraints.
